FOTAS

Fiber Optic Distributed Acoustic Sensing System

What Is FOTAS?

FOTAS is SAMM Teknoloji’s proprietary Distributed Fiber Optic Sensing (DFOS) platform, developed entirely by SAMM engineers through years of research and engineering expertise in fiber optic communication and sensing technologies.

FOTAS integrates Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) and Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS) technologies, transforming conventional fiber optic cables into intelligent sensing networks capable of monitoring acoustic, vibration, and temperature-related events over long distances in real time.

Today, FOTAS solutions are deployed across 5 continents and more than 30 countries, supporting critical infrastructure, industrial facilities, energy networks, transportation systems, and security applications.

How Does It Work?

FOTAS uses optical fiber itself as a continuous sensing element.

In DAS applications, laser pulses transmitted through the fiber are analyzed to detect vibrations and acoustic disturbances occurring along the cable.

In DTS applications, changes in backscattered light are analyzed to measure temperature continuously along the fiber.

This enables a single fiber optic sensing cable to monitor long distances and precisely identify the location of acoustic or temperature-related events in real time.

What Advantages Does It Offer?

FOTAS provides continuous and distributed monitoring over long distances without requiring thousands of conventional point sensors.

The platform combines:

  • Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS)
  • Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS)
  • Real-time monitoring
  • Precise event localization
  • AI-powered analytics
  • Long-distance coverage
  • Integration with industrial monitoring and security systems

Developed at SAMM Teknoloji’s certified R&D Center, FOTAS combines advanced fiber optic sensing technology with industrial software and data analytics to improve safety, operational efficiency, and situational awareness.

What Applications Does It Have?

FOTAS can be used across a wide range of critical infrastructure and industrial applications, including:

  1. Perimeter security and intrusion detection
  2. Pipeline monitoring
  3. Linear heat and fire detection
  4. Power cable and industrial condition monitoring
  5. Transportation and infrastructure monitoring
  6. Seismic and vibration monitoring

FOTAS technologies have been deployed internationally across energy, oil & gas, transportation, security, industrial, and critical infrastructure projects.
